Exploring Wellness Through Contact Improvisation
Springfield College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Principles of contact improvisation are explored and practiced, cultivating deep attentiveness, openness, and profound curiosity. Students explore contact improvisation through weekly movement activities/explorations, discussions, and in class ssignments. Through contact improvisational techniques involving touch, breath, risk taking, sensing, and weight sharing students explore and expand their physical, emotional and spiritual wellness. This class requires touch, which will be done with respect, while finding ways to safely push boundaries and take risks, embracing trepidation and discomfort. You do not need to be a dancer in order to benefit from this course, but should be ready and willing to move, both individually and with others.
