Catalog description
This course is designed to broaden students’ understanding of photojournalism and to provide the basic skills needed to produce newsworthy images for publication in both print and digital media. Using both smartphones and Digital Single Lens Reflex, students learn the fundamentals of composition and content in order to generate compelling still images. Students also study the ethical, historical, aesthetic and legal dimensions of visual journalism. They practice the principles of photojournalism through multiple news assignments, including features, general news, and sports. In addition, they use Adobe Photoshop to edit photos and write informative captions. Finally, students have the freedom to explore a topic/issue in depth and demonstrate what they learned in a multimedia photo story project and to showcase their work via a professional portfolio.
