Newspaper and Magazine Design

Catalog description

In this course, students are introduced to the fundamental theories of layout, grid systems, typography, color and use of images for storytelling in newspapers and magazines. Students develop editorial and design skills - including news judgment, story and headline hierarchy, typography, and meaningful visual storytelling through use of photos and art. During the course of the semester, students design, prototype and produce layouts for the student newspaper and Pride Sports Journal magazine.
