Catalog description

In this course, students will examine the structure and function of microbial human pathogens and their relationship to infection and disease. The dynamic mechanisms of host-parasite interactions are emphasized. Special consideration is given to the problems of host-microbe association in immunosuppressed or immunocompromised patients. The actions and the selectivity of antibiotics in terms of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cellular characteristics and the potential dangers associated with their widespread use and abuse are discussed.
