Catalog description

This course is designed to introduce undergraduate students to specific populations and settings in art therapy. These include art therapy in the educational classroom, medical or health care settings, and art therapy with chronic mental health diagnoses. Students will explore diverse applications of materials and methodologies utilized with these specific types of groups. Students will develop foundational knowledge of how art therapists of how these unique groups are classified for consideration under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and by the Diagnostic and Statistics Manual, fifth edition (DSM-V). Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the current trends in the literature and the challenges these populations face because of their complex situations.
