This class is an introduction to the sociological study of race and ethnicity in the United States. The focus is major sociological concepts, theories and ideas related to race and ethnicity. The historical development of racial and ethnic diversity and the current social circumstances of avariety of racial and ethnic groups in the United States will be included. The development and use of asociological perspective will be emphasized to critically examine our current situation and our future as amulticultural society, emphasizing the intersection of race and ethnicity with gender and social class.
