ASL Linguistics II

Catalog description

Students continue the study of ASL and English linguistics, building on information introduced in SLS 120, through study of semantics, pragmatics, turn-taking, discourse analysis, and language in context. The primary focus of this course is translation through discourse analysis and techniques of rephrasing and restructuring meaning in ASL and in English. Power dynamics, language in context and turn-taking in interpreted settings will also be discussed in relation to the interpreter’srole. (Fall only)
