Catalog description

This course is the third clinical education experience that provides an opportunity for students to integrate previously learned didactic, laboratory, and clinical skills in situations simulating that of a Practical Nurse. This course is designed to enhance the student’sability to safely care for the medical/ surgical patient using the nursing process with professional communication. The student will integrate their knowledge and skills obtained throughout the PN program, including Medical Surgical Nursing and Clinical I. Students will practice health promotion, interpretation of pathophysiology including signs and symptoms, nursing considerations and treatments focusing on neurology, respiratory, cardiovascular, renal, and endocrine disease processes. This clinical internship provides students with aminimum of 72 clinical contact hours including intravenous therapy observation exposure: regulating infusion rates, observing site reactions, discontinuation of infusions, adding pre-mixed antibiotic solutions and monitoring blood transfusions.
