Catalog description

This course is the second clinical education experience that provides an opportunity for students to integrate previously learned didactic, laboratory, and clinical skills in situations simulating that of a Practical Nurse. This course is focused to prepare the student with the knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to care for patients with alterations in medical and surgical health. Students will apply the nursing process to various disease processes and effectively communicate while safely caring for patients. The curriculum shall prepare the LPN to start peripheral intravenous therapy through catheter insertion into aperipheral vein. This clinical internship provides students with aminimum of 72 clinical contact hours, including intravenous therapy observation exposure: regulating infusion rates, observing site reactions, discontinuation of infusions, adding pre-mixed antibiotic solutions and monitoring blood transfusions.
