Behavioral Health Nursing

Catalog description
This course is designed to utilize the nursing process in providing care for patients with selected common behavioral health problems including anxiety, personality, mood and psychotic disorders, cognitive disorders in the elderly, and substance abuse. Afocus on the safety, ethical, and legal issues are also considered. Emphasis is on interferences with human Basic Needs for self-awareness, self-esteem, and communication which causes alterations of behavior. Personal development of the student is emphasized as aprelude to understanding others. Learning situations are provided in the classroom setting and in-patient settings in the hospital and the community.
