Catalog description

Provides an introduction to documentary movie production. Working individually or in pairs, students will research, plan, shoot, and edit an original short documentary movie. Students will also study some of the major types of documentaries (biographical, historical, ethnographic, experimental, issue- based, and others) and important documentary directors. The main focus of the course, however, will be production: identifying agood documentary subject, conducting interviews, shooting visually interesting footage, getting good location sound, and finding astory or pattern that can serve as an organizing principle while editing.
