Introduction to Education

Catalog description

This course introduces the educational professions and the diverse systems of education within the United States. Students will explore the various aspects of education as aprofession, including historical, philosophical, social, legal, and ethical issues in adiverse society. The course will discuss the organizational structure of schools at the federal, state, and local levels, as well as education reform, finance, and curriculum. Current issues in education, basic instructional strategies, and teacher responsibilities will be addressed, along with an emphasis on the dispositions and skills necessary for educators. Observation hours will be included to provide practical insights into the educational environment. Students must complete fingerprinting prior to in-person observations.
