Catalog description

This course explores the scientific study of mental health and psychological disorders from historical, social, and clinical perspectives. Emphasis is placed on understanding the core features of major psychological disorders, recognizing shared symptoms, and analyzing assessment methods. Students will also evaluate a range of biomedical and psychological treatment approaches, considering their strengths, limitations, and ethical implications. Through a focus on empathy and awareness, the course highlights how research, social support, and standards of care contribute to promoting mental health and reducing stigma.
