Catalog description

In this course, students will begin to study the mechanics of motion, moving beyond statics to solve non-equilibrium problems. Vector analysis and calculus will be used to analyze the kinetics and kinematics of particles and rigid bodies. General equations of motion, energy, and momentum methods are taught along with translational motion kinematics including cartesian and normal-tangential reference frames and rotational motion of rigid bodies. Students will analyze data from a flight test, developing skills in reducing large data sets and exploring the kinematics of an aircraft. Students will also explore software used in dynamics simulations.
