Terrorist Techniques and Counterterrorism

Catalog description

In this course, students will examine the landscape of contemporary terrorist tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), as well as the strategic, operational, and tactical frameworks employed in counterterrorism (CT). Students will critically assess the evolving nature of terrorism—including domestic and international threats—by examining ideological motivations, organizational structures, recruitment methods, and the use of technology and media by violent non-state actors. Through case studies and threat analysis research, students will engage with the intelligence cycle, analyze extremist objectives, and develop ethically grounded, interdisciplinary responses. The course places strong emphasis on evidence-based decision making, ethical considerations, and interagency coordination in the context of evolving global threats.
