Catalog description

This course aids the prospective healthcare student to perform successfully in healthcare education and career by exhibiting professional behavior and appearance, understanding the clinical requirements for healthcare education and jobs, applying ethics to educational and healthcare situations, acquiring resources and tools for mastering healthcare knowledge and skills; communicating and working well in a group as well as one-to-one, documenting properly in a healthcare setting and writing according to defined procedures and rubrics; using critical thinking skills in the classroom and the healthcare setting, and introducing the student to the various healthcare programs available at South Texas College. Some healthcare programs award points toward selection for completion of HCSS with a grade of “A” or “B”. This course fulfills a requirement for all first-time developmental students who are not TSI complete, and for all students (including transfer students) with grade point averages below 2.0. It is not required for students who are TSI exempt.
