WRITING POETRY

Writing 13 provides instruction in the craft of writing poetry for both the beginning and the experienced writer. The course is organized and taught in the form of a traditional writer's workshop, a directed forum in which students read, discuss, and critique the poems they have written in response to weekly assignments. Students study modern and contemporary poems for evidence of poetic techniques put into practice. Students are thus directed to read closely, to write consciously, and to recognize a well-written poem.
