Catalog description

This course is an introductory, historical study of the poetry of various cultures from antiquity to the present. The course introduces poetic conventions and traditions as well as terms and concepts fundamental to the study of poetry, as drawn from prosody, rhetoric, aesthetics, and criticism. In addition, the course explores important movements and essential concerns in the history of poetics.
