INTRODUCTION TO CULTURAL STUDIES

Catalog description

Introduces students to the theories, methodologies and issues used in the field of cultural studies. Considers the political nature of knowledge, representation, and cultural identity, especially as it relates to subjectivity, identity, race, gender, sexuality, class, and colonialism. This course explores the history, nature, and strategies involved in cultural change and theorizes the emergence of cultural movements and practices. Field trips may be required.
