FILM GENRE STUDIES

Catalog description

This course examines the emergence of a category, or genre, of film within the context of film history. Each time the course is offered, it focuses one or more genres (e.g., the Western, gangster film, musical, film noir) and the societal and economic context in which specific film types emerge. Students view representative films in order to identify and analyze techniques and conventions unique to the genre under consideration.
