Analyzes the literary works of African-American, Native-American, Arab-American, Asian-American, and Latino/Hispanic and their reflection of experiences in the United States. Focuses on such themes such as self and family, self and religion, self and culture, self and nature; cultural conflict; war and peace; lived experience; intersectional identity; perceptions of otherness. Compares and contrasts the styles and techniques of the authors. Focuses on social, philosophical, spiritual, and ethical values within the literature. Develops criteria for evaluating literature.
