Catalog description
This course integrates statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials with applications in biomechanics. Students analyze forces acting on rigid bodies using vector algebra, including topics such as trusses, frames, beams, friction, centroids, and moments of inertia. These principles are applied to macroscopic biomechanical systems, with emphasis on musculoskeletal anatomy, mechanical behavior of biological tissues, stresses, strains, structural response, and injury tolerance. Biomedical applications include analysis and design of medical devices, implants, prostheses, and safety equipment. Prerequisites and Corequisites Pre-req: MATH 123 - Calculus I (C) [SGR #5, HSDC] Note New course as of Fall 2026.
