This course will study religion as a force in American history from the Protestant Reformation in Europe through the present, examining a wide range of beliefs, practices, events, and historical figures. How have religious beliefs and communities both responded and contributed to historical change? What is American about religion in American history? To what degree has religion served as a source of liberation but also as source of oppression in American history? Cross-Listed: REL 348 .
