Issues in the Behavioral Treatment of Autism

Catalog description

This course has been designed to provide advanced students and professionals with perspectives and commentaries on issues related to the behavioral treatment of autism. The course is not designed to teach the students techniques in the behavioral treatment of autism but, rather, to provide a professional context for understanding some of the history, content, and complexities of behavioral interventions. A majority of the information presented and discussed falls under the umbrella of the scientific discipline of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Students will benefit most from the course if they have had training and experience in behavior analysis. This course is divided into three sections 1) Understanding the treatment of autism and scientific evidence, 2) Designing autism interventions across the lifespan, and 3) Creating systems that support successful interventions in autism. Enrollment is limited to Graduate level students. Enrollment limited to students in a Master of Education degree. Enrollment limited to students with department of Special Education.
