Social Work Practice with Substance Use Disorders

This course explores the complexities of substance use disorders (SUDs) and their treatment within various social work settings, including child welfare, behavioral health, medical, and school environments. Students will examine the impact of drug policies, societal stigma, treatment practices, and recovery supports on individuals and communities affected by substance use disorders. The course integrates knowledge of policy, practice, and research to prepare students for effective intervention and advocacy in this critical area of social work practice. Students with a semester level of Freshman 1, Freshman 2 or Sophomore 1 may not enroll. Enrollment is limited to students with a program in Social Work or Social Work.
