Catalog description

In this course, students will gain advanced skills in recreational therapy for need-driven behaviors in dementia. A focus on current approaches for distress reactions and behavioral manifestations of need will allow students to apply current theory and research on recreational therapy specifically for care of people with dementia. The course will cover need-driven model, validation theory, trauma-informed care, and person-centered care. Enrollment is limited to students with a program in Recreational Therapy, Recreational Therapy or Animal-Assisted Interventions. Enrollment is limited to Graduate level students. Enrollment limited to students in a Master of Science degree. Enrollment limited to students in the College of Health Professions college.
