Catalog description
This course provides a more advanced examination of classical mechanics compared to introductory physics courses, with a strong focus on Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms. Topics covered include a review of Newtonian mechanics, the principles of conservation of energy and momentum, calculus of variations, Lagrange’s equations, two-body central force problems, mechanics in non-inertial frames, and Hamiltonian mechanics. Students with a semester level of Freshman 1, Freshman 2 or Sophomore 1 may not enroll.
