Clinical History and Physical Diagnosis with Lab III

Catalog description

This course builds on the skills learned in Clinical History and Physical Diagnosis I and II, with a continued emphasis on relevant history-taking and physical examination techniques necessary for the practical diagnosis of diseases and disorders. The lecture component focuses on diagnosing conditions related to the neurologic, psychiatric/behavioral health, hematologic, cardiovascular, and pulmonary systems. The lab component provides further practice in obtaining and performing history-taking and physical examinations based on patient complaints and presentations, as well as formulating differential diagnoses. Students will also learn how to conduct a comprehensive geriatric well-person history and physical examination, along with a pediatric well-child history and physical examination. Additional topics include addressing challenges associated with diversity and strategies for managing difficult interactions with patients, preceptors, coworkers, or supervisors. In preparation for clerkships, students are required to obtain or renew their Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
