The Scholarship in OT II course in our Occupational Therapy Doctorate program builds on prior coursework to deepen students’ understanding of evidence-based practice through critical analysis and synthesis of research. Integrating the threads of scholarship and professional reasoning with transformational learning and innovation, this course emphasizes the use of critical review systems and levels of evidence to inform clinical decisions and enhance practice. Students will learn to develop PICO questions, enabling them to formulate precise inquiries that guide their research efforts and address real-world clinical challenges. The curriculum provides comprehensive instruction on the literature review process, equipping students with effective library resources and search strategies to identify relevant studies and appraise their quality. Through focused exercises in synthesizing evidence, students will learn to integrate findings from multiple sources, facilitating the development of practice recommendations that are both rigorous and applicable. Additionally, the course emphasizes the importance of presentation and dissemination, preparing students to effectively communicate their research outcomes to diverse audiences, including academic peers and healthcare professionals.
