Catalog description

This course will focus on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the wind band profession, particularly related to wind band repertoire and equitable programming practices. In this course, students will engage with first-hand accounts from underrepresented communities in the wind band profession contextualized against a brief history of the wind band and its repertoire. Students will identify and analyze historical systems and structures influencing repertoire development. Diverse works by diverse composers at a variety of grade levels will be studied as well as resources to immediately implement equitable programming practices in the classroom today. Enrollment is limited to Graduate level students.
