Catalog description

This course introduces students to the field of music education and the diverse roles of the PreK–12 music educator in general, vocal, and instrumental settings. Emphasis is placed on understanding professional standards, ethics, and the philosophical and historical foundations that inform teaching practice. Field Experience I accompanies this course, providing students with structured observation opportunities in a variety of PreK–12 music classrooms. Through weekly lectures and guided field reflections, students will begin connecting theory to practice and developing their professional identity as future music educators.
