Advanced Disease Prevention in Public Health

This course will build upon the knowledge acquired in HLTH 209 Foundations of Disease in Public Health. The Foundations of Disease in Public Health course provides a basic understanding of a broad range of human diseases with regard to the causes, mechanisms, signs and symptoms, and current therapies. This advanced disease prevention course is designed for public health students as well as other health related majors. It is designed to explore complex disease prevention levels and recent evidence-based health prevention strategies in the US and globally to reduce the incidence of communicable and non-communicable diseases. This course will examine population risk factors, technology for disease prevention, policies which shape health prevention approaches/strategies and interprofessional collaboration. (3 credits) Students with a semester level of Freshman 1, Freshman 2 or Sophomore 1 may not enroll.
