Catalog description

Serves as introduction to basic language structure, use and theories. The course will introduce the scientific study of language; familiarize students with the linguistic knowledge held by native speakers of any language; foster an appreciation of the complexity of spoken and written forms of English; and explore language variation, specifically English social dialects, as well as how attitudes toward these variations reflect ideology. Enrollment is limited to Graduate level students.
