Counseling the Aging

Catalog description

This course is designed to enhance student knowledge of unique considerations in counseling older adults and demonstration of the principles, strategies and competencies in working with this population. Counselor attributes which facilitate the therapeutic encounter will be explored. Demonstration of case conceptualization, diagnosis, treatment, referral and prevention of mental and emotional disorders is emphasized. Evidence-based practices and current research is also applied within the practice of clinical mental health counseling. Enrollment is limited to Graduate level students.
