Intermediate Studio Metalsmithing

Catalog description

The student will explore Metalsmithing with an increased level of production, critique, history and aesthetics. this course is intended to increase skill level while continuing to develop the student's personal aesthetic. Students will demonstrate a variety of metalsmithing techniques while understanding Metalsmithing's technical and historical contexts. Students are expected to be self-motivated in terms of idea generation and execution. Students will explore avenues to make their work more personal by combining metalsmithing technical skills with form and concept. Primary emphasis will be placed on technical refinement alongside development of creative problem-solving skills. Through creative studio practice, students should develop the following emphasized artistic traits: ability to resist premature closure; sensitivity to problems; ability to synthesize.
