This course will investigate the nature and origins of organized political groups in American politics, seeking to understand what it takes for political parties and interest groups, which are informal players of American politics, to survive, thrive, and develop a powerful voice in the national political dialogue. While the course focuses on American parties and interest groups, they will be explored in the global and comparative context.
