An exploration of the theories, methods, and prospects of the burgeoning field of Environmental Psychology. Our environments have a profound impact on who we are, how we feel, how we act, and what we can imagine. While the physical features of our environments are important, we also experience the environment through a social and cultural lens. Environmental Psychology is an interdisciplinary field that seeks to understand the interplay between people, places, policy, and culture. Students will discuss the many ways that places and people shape each other and the psychological implications of the pressing environmental issues of our time (e.g., climate change, technological disasters, environmental racism). The course concludes by looking toward the future as we explore how can psychology be leveraged to build a sustainable future.
