Catalog description

An exploration of the evolution of work, specifically paid employment, from the early industrial era to the present-day workplace, with an emphasis on its historical development and ongoing transformations in the United States. We will examine how political, economic, cultural, and social forces have shaped, and continue to shape, the relationships between individuals, groups, and society within the workplace. Work will be analyzed not only as an economic activity driven by market forces, but also as a deeply social and cultural phenomenon. Particular attention will be given to how industrialization redefined the nature of labor in the U.S., and how contemporary trends in work arrangements have amplified challenges surrounding work practices and labor relations in today's economy.
