Catalog description

African Caribbean Dance Practices II delves into the fundamental aspects of African Caribbean dance, including polyrhythms, polycentric movements, and distinctive movements practices like shaking, trembling, wining, and undulating. This course will also pay emphasis on ritual, performance, and music. Students will explore the fundamentals of African Caribbean Dances from Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, Cuba and the musical instruments used to accompany these dances. In addition to practical dance training, this course will provide a theoretical basis for understanding the geographical, historical, and the cultural contexts in which the dances originated.
