Catalog description

This is an introductory course to African Caribbean Dance with an emphasis on movement, ritual, performance, and music. In this course, students will explore the fundamentals of African Caribbean Dances from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Haiti, Barbados etc., and the musical instruments used to accompany these dances. In addition to practical dance training, this course will provide a theoretical basis for understanding the geographical, historical, and the cultural contexts in which the dances originated.
