Catalog description

The course discusses the historical development of the mental health services in Puerto Rico. It analyzes the public policies, regulations and the administration of the mental health services, together with the programs, promotional services, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of children, adolescents and the adult population. The relationship between the governmental sector, private providers, insurers and community -based organizations for the provision of mental health services will be discussed. The impact of federal laws and the financial mechanism for the provision of mental health services will be cri tically examined. The course will also analyze the stigmatization affecting mental health patients as a human rights and social justice issue.
