Catalog description

This course is designed to integrate clinical and theoretical experiences in the area of sonography. A summary of the sonographic modalities studied is presented. A review of the techniques, skills and protocols of each anatomical area is emphasized. This course provides an opportunity for students to execute and practice what they have learne d in sonography courses prior to graduation. The student will be able to trace and identify anatomical structures of different parts of the body, emphasizing abdomen and vascularity. This course meets 30 hours of laboratory in one semester. SOVA 338 CLINICAL EDUCATION IN VASCULAR TECHNOLOGY I 1 CREDIT This clinical course provides students the opportunity to practice in real clinical scenarios the protocols and scanning of the vascular sonography. Emphasis is on mastering of the scanning techniques, analysis of duplex sonography image and the use of terminology in the writing of the preliminary report. It includes 120 clinical practicum hours. SOVA 339 CLINICAL EDUCATION IN VASCULAR TECHNOLOGY II 1 CREDIT This is a clinical course created to give the student the opportunity of a real practical experience in real clinical environment. The student will have the opportunity to work on the recognition of the tracking planes, as well as the performance of vascul ar protocols that include and are not limited to Carotid Duplex, Arterial and Venous Upper Extremities within vascular sonography. Emphasis is provided for mastering the tracking technique and mastering sonographic equipment, recognition of adjacent structures, pathologies, among others. The student is guided to the analysis of the sonographic image in B-Mode and Duplex. The use of sonographic terminology for the writing of the preliminary report is emphasized. The course has 120 hours of clinical practice. SOVA 340 CLINICAL EDUCATION IN VASCULAR TECHNOLOGY III 1 CREDIT The focus of this practice is the advanced vascular sonographic procedures of the intracranial circulation, abdominal and pelvic vasculature, pletismography, graft, stens and arteriovenous fistulas evaluation. In addition, scanning techniques and protocols used to diagnose vascular pathology are included. It includes 360 clinical practicum hours.
