SOCIOCULTURAL AND BEHAVIORAL DETERMINANTS IN HEALTH DISPARITIES

Catalog description

During this course students will explore the social, psychological and cultural determinants of health behavior and consider its significance for health and nursing professionals in community, local, national and international settings. The course addresses the conditions and phenomena that affect the understanding, acceptance and use of health information by people and, therefore, the design, implementation and evaluation of community health interventions. The course provides an overview of the theories an d principles that can be used to explain how socio-cultural factors and human behaviors influence health. The course will focus on social and behavioral determinants of health (SDH), these are conditions, factors and socio -cultural systems that place peopl e from different sociodemographic and socio-economic groups (social class, gender, race / ethnicity and place birth) that influence the risk of contracting diseases and experiencing health problems when faced with the disparity of health services. It facilitates the development of competencies related to advanced knowledge for nursing science, prevention and health promotion, quality improvement and safety and advanced care for vulnerable groups.
