Catalog description

In this course the primary health care provided to infants, children and adolescents in various health care settings including schools, community clinics, and ambulatory care is discussed. Students learn to implement relevant health promotion interventions; assess, diagnose and manage minor acute and chronic health conditions; and educate children and families about positive health practices. Knowledge of health care, including examinations; developmental screenings; diagnosis, and treatment of common childhood illnesses; child health concerns; immunizations; and sc hool physicals is discussed. Emphasis on the development of competencies in quality improvement, health policy and advocacy, interprofessional collaboration, clinical prevention and population health, and independent nursing practice through the study of p rimary care provided to children at different stages of growth and development. A total of 45 hours of theory per academic term are required
