FUNDAMENTALS OF MANUFACTURING PROCESSES TECHNOLOGY

Catalog description

In this course, students acquire knowledge of the fundamental concepts of manufacturing processes, including the interrelationships between material properties, manufacturing process, and component design. It presents an overview of the casting, forming, and metal removal processes. The plastics and wood manufacturing processes will also be used. Emphasis is placed on the selection process for optimal design. Technological and design competencies will be developed that are required to manufacture a high quality product at a low price. METE 245L LABORATORY OF FUNDAMENTALS OF MANUFACTURING PROCESSES TECHNOLOGY 1 CREDIT In this laboratory course the theoretical knowledge acquired in the METE 245 course Principles of Manufacturing Process Technology will be applied. The student will have the opportunity to acquire technical skills in the development of mechanical components. They will be used: lathes, milling machines, drills and other specialized equipment in the design of industrial parts . The student applies the safety rules and procedures in the laboratory. Scientific reasoning skills will be developed that will be applied in the use of machinery for the manufacture of metal and plastic products. METE 248 PRINCIPLES OF WELDING 1 CREDIT In this course the student will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge related to the field of welding. Materials, techniques and procedures related to this matter will be studied. The student will have the opportunity to work welding: oxy-acetylene, armored metal arc, gas in metal and plasma cutting and others. All the safety rules that govern this field will be used as well as the procedure used for the handling and use of gases. Technological competences that apply to welding and that are necessary for the manufacture and repair in the manufacture of products will be developed.
