METE 235
FUNDAMENTALS OF PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS
Sistema Universitario Ana G. Mendez · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
In this course, students acquire knowledge of the fundamental concepts of manufacturing processes, including the interrelationships between material properties, manufacturing process, and component design. It presents an overview of the casting, forming, and metal removal processes. The plastics and wood manufacturing processes will also be used. Emphasis is placed on the selection process for optimal design. Technological and design skills that are required in the manufacture of products will be developed. METE 235L LABORATORY OF FUNDAMENTALS OF PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS 1 CREDIT In this laboratory course the theoretical knowledge acquired in the course METE 235 Foundations of the Properties of Materials will be applied. The student will have the opportunity to develop different types of tests on metals, plastics and wood. They will be used: microscopes and hardness equipment among others. In addition, in this course the student will apply all the safety rules established for a Mechanical Engineeri ng laboratory. Scientific reasoning skills will be developed to be able to use equipment that tests the different materials used in the manufacture of products.
