METHODS FOR REGIONALS LANDSCAPE DESIGN
Sistema Universitario Ana G. Mendez · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Regional Methods offers an interdisciplinary exploration of landscape dynamics, delving into principles and practices encompassing landscape ecology, ecological restoration, biodiversity conservation, sustainable water management, land use planning, transportation considerations, and climate change adaptation. While acknowledging the significance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping techniques, the course primarily focuses on equipping students with a holistic understanding of landscape planning and design. Through a multifaceted approach blending lectures, interactive exercises, real-world case studies, and a culminating project, participants delve into the nuanced application of various tools and methodologies. They learn to skillfully analyze landscapes, identify ecological patterns, and develop resilient solutions poised to address the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change. With a strategic emphasis on incorporating principles of land use planning and transportation considerations, students explore how ecological restoration and biodiversity conservation can synergize with urban and rural planning practices. By examining the intersections of transportation infrastructure and ecological systems, learners gain insights into designing landscapes that are both functional and ecologically sustainable. Through exploration of planning strategies, policy frameworks, and real-world examples, students develop the expertise to craft landscapes that endure and thrive amidst the evolving environmental paradigms of the 21st century.
