ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS, PLANT MATERIAL AND LANDSCAPE ECOLOGY

Catalog description

This course will study the different types of plants such as coverts, shrubs, trees, and palms with a focus on native and endemic plant material. Its characteristics, care, and proper maintenance for the different groups of plants will be discussed, as well as fertilization and irrigation systems. At the end of the course, students will be able to select native, endemic, and ornamental plants, as well as understand their associations to local ecosystems to design sustainable landscapes according to the needs and availability of plant nurseries on the market of Puerto Rico. Practice exercises and field visits will be carried out.
