INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

Catalog description

This course provides a broad overview of the theory and practice of international business with an emphasis on the theories and models used in this discipline. The first part of the course discusses differences in economic, social, political, cultural, legal, financial, and technological issues that affect international business. This was followed by an examination of global trade, investment, and the international monetary system. The final part of the course explores the strategic issues of international business - why and how companies choose to operate beyond their domestic borders - and we confine ourselves to discussing the functional areas of international business. From the study of the assigned articles and through class discussion, students are exp ected to be able to (1) trace the development of international business theory over the past 40 years; (2) identify the main theories that explain international trade and the existence of multinational firms; and (3) discuss the strengths and weaknesses of current theories and models of international business.
