Catalog description

This course introduces the student to the operation research modeling approach with emphasis on linear programming and extensions, the simplex procedure and its applications. These includes the formulation of a mathematical model for an industrial or service system problem where limited resources need to be allocated to activities in order to optimize an objective (i.e., minimize cost or maximize profit), solve the problem using graphical and Simplex Method techniques, interpret results and solve and interpret results of network optimization problems (i.e., transportation, spanning tree, maximum flow, shortest path).
